Description	The paper concentrates its attention on the partial issue of relationship between social and environmental pillars of sustainable development strategy, i.e. on the employment impacts of environmental policy. The first part summarizes the main methodological problems in this sphere (e.g. extent of activities which are widely agreed on as being environmentally-related, measuring environmentally-related employment effects, etc). The great majority of the existing studies that have tried to quantify the environmental policy impact on employment were based on definition of eco-industry prepared by OECD and Eurostat experts. Therefore the second part of article utilizes this definition and characterizes employment in eco-industry of the Czech Republic in the period 1999 to 2007. The Czech State Employment policy uses a number of instruments of the ?active employment policy? aimed at harmonizing supply and demand on the labour market.
