| Description
| - In the last few years the labor market as an important element of economic growth and sensitive indicator of economic changes has been carefully watched in the context of ongoing global economic crisis by the professional public especially in its economic, sociologic and regional aspects. This publication focuses on the development of the situation on the labor market in the Saxon-Bohemian space in the period after 1990 to the present. From a territorial perspective it is defined by statistical units on level NUTS 2 (so called coherence regions). On German side it is defined by three cohesion regions (Leipzig, Chemnitz and Dresden) which form Free State of Saxony and on Czech side it is defined by two regions (Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary) which form Severozápad (North-West) Cohesion Region. Purpose of this publication is to characterize both regions by using employment and unemployment data in the period of economic transformation and post transformation, analyze development on the labor market in the period of economic crisis, and describe the differences and similarities. Purpose of this publication is also to outline possible development in the given area in near future, and emphasize factors which can affect it negatively. This publication is intended not only for students of Regional Development but also for the general public interested in the problems of Czech-Saxon border region and the situation on the labor market in traditional industrial areas of the country.
