  • Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit dem Zeitstück Franz Werfels %22Juarez und Maximilian%22 (1925). Er zeigt auf, wie dieses Werk über den nationalen Befreiungskampf der mexikanischen Indianer gegen die habsburgische Bevormundung vom 19. Jahrhundert auch auf das Europa des 20. Jahrhunderts übertragbar ist, also auf die schriftstellerische Gegenwart Werfels und seine Heimat, die Tschechoslowakei. Mehrere Parallelen zwischen derer Entstehung und der Konstituierung der mexikanischen Republik werden sichtbar, wobei Juarez häufig die Züge Masaryks trägt und Diaz oft jene von Beneš. Auch wenn das Werk heutzutage nur in seiner Zeitgebundenheit rezipiert werden kann, stellt seine Geschichtlichkeit einen wichtigen Wert dar.
  • The article deals with the period play %22Juarez and Maximilian%22 (1925) by Franz Werfel. It describes the fight of the native Mexicans for national independence and against the Habsburg dominion. And it shows that this topic is transferable from the 19th century to the early 20th century, and thus to the author´s present and his home country, Czechoslovakia. (en)
