Description
  • Hot stamping is typically used for manufacturing car body parts. This process allows forming parts with high strength. Thanks to hot deformation and rapid cooling, shaped parts with martensite microstructure and high yield and ultimate strengths are obtained. this paper provides an introduction to a new hot stamping process used together with the Q-P process (quenching and partitioning) for processing of high strength low alloy steels. By this procedure and by controlling the microstructure development, high strength exceeding 2000 MPa and elongation over 10% can be achieved. A steel containing 0,43% C, 0,59 - 1,17% manganese and 2 - 2,6% silicon was used for this experiment. FEM analysis was carried out to find hot stamping parameters for selected chemical compositions and sheet thicknesses. The results formed a basis of experimental work. The work consisted in material-technological modelling using a thermomechanical simulator. The primary goal of the experiment +was to test the combination of hot stamping and Q-P processes for chosen UHS steels. The experiment provided values of process parameters required for successful application and showed the resulting values of mechanical properties achievable by this method.
