- Významným ekologickým faktorem je snaha o efektivní a šetrné těžení surovinových zdrojů s ohledem na míru jejich neobnovitelnosti, nepřepravitelnosti a vzácnosti. To zahrnuje omezení přebytku stavebních hmot na staveništích, stavebních odpadů a podporu jejich recyklace, a také tlak na využití značného množství rlzných velkoobjemových průmyslových odpadních materiálů. Je možné použití tyto materiály s jistým ekonomickým efektem ve výrobě stavebních hmot ve formě plniva nebo pojiva. Technologie využívající druhotné suroviny mohou vést ke zlepšení užitných vlastností konečného výrobku a v některých případech se podílet také na snížení objemu emisí.
