Description
  • The paper deals with the effect of grain (hulled vs. hulless) and starch (standard vs. waxy with a reduced amylose/amylopectin ratio) type, determined by differences in the pedigree of the spring barley hybrids, on the content of important nutrients (non-starch polysaccharides: beta-glucans and arabinoxylans, starch and N-substances) and important agronomic characters (grain yield, sieving and TKW). Results of the study of 73 new barley breeding lines grown at two locations (Kromeriz and Zabcice) in the years 2008-2010 documented that agronomic characters can be gradually improved even in genotypes with genetically purposefully modified starch composition (waxy starch). The effect of the option of parental components on the level of characters and parameters in sets with different morphological and nutritional grain properties has been confirmed.
