Description	Fluctuations of water level and the hydrological regime of Lake Kyoga influence the dynamics and occurrence of wetlands and water reservoirs within its surroundings. During the last twenty years many of them have become nearly entirely overgrown and afflicted by siltation. The aim of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in Uganda is to use these waters and wetlands for extensive fish production. Landsat and Terra Aster satellite data were used to analyze the occurrence of free water and wetlands between the years 1986 and 2006. Multispectral classification of these data provides information on how to detect localities potentially suitable for free water restoration and establishing of the BOMOSA fish farming system. The results have shown significant decrease of wetlands and water bodies within the analyzed time horizon.
