Description
| - Electrical injuries are as old as the discovery of electricity itself. The first documented literature related to electrical injury was from 1879 when a French carpenter was handling a generator. This incident was caused by low voltage (250 V). Basic division of such injuries is according to the size of electrotrauma, when the boundaries between high and low voltage represents a value of 1000 V. This boundary is artificial; the clinical difference between the two types of injury is indisputable. Low-voltage injuries are presented only as a local point of contact in disability; high electrotrauma is characterised by widespread, devastating injuries to deep-seated structures, which is often combined with injuries to organs as well depending on the route of electric current. In fact, we can divide this into three different stages: electrotrauma with passage of electric current, electric arc and secondary burns caused by flames from clothing
