  • Laparoscopic or open prosthetic mesh hernioplasty for groin hernia repair is thought to be effective and is highly accepted in most Western countries.As the major long term complication of hernioplasty is usually meant hernia recurrence.Incidence of other long-term complications after mesh hernioplasty is not well known.Formation of intraabdominal adhesions is unwanted consequence of surgery. Intraabdominal adhesions can result in serious complications. Experience shows that laparoscopy produces less intraabdominal adhesions than conventional surgery. In addition, new prosthetic materials encouraged laparoscopists to use intraabdominal onlay mesh technique (IPOM) in groin hernia repair where used mesh stays in permanent contact with viscera. We present a case report of a man who developed long-term complication due to IPOM technique.
