Description	Leptin (Lp) je adipokin, který vzbuzuje pozornost jako možný mediátor protektivního efektu tukové tkáně na kostní tkáň. Protektivní efekt tukové tkáně na kost je závislý na jejím množství. Vzhledem ke skutečnosti, že koncentrace Lp koreluje s množstvím tukové tkáně je o něm uvažováno jako o mediátoru protektivního efektu. Byly navrženy jak centrální tak periferní možné účinky působení Lp na kost. Výsledky in vivo a in vitro pozorování podporují hypotézu, že Lp může působit jak přímo tak nepřímo na aktivitu osteoblastů a osteoklastů. Studie s lidskýmy subjekty však nebyly schopny potvrdit tento účinek. Efekt poklesu hladiny estrogenů během menopauzy na hladinu Lp také zůstává kontroverzní. Je nutné provedení rozsáhlých klinických studií k podouzení účinku Lp in vivo . (cs) Leptin (Lp) a cytokine protein secreted by adipose tissue raises considerable interest as a potential mediator of the protective effects of fat mass on bone tissue. The protective effect of obesity on bone mass has been ascribed to a high body fat content. As Lp levels reflect the body fat content it has emerged as a possible mediator of these protective effects. Both peripheral and central action of Lp on bone metabolism have been proposed. In vitro and in vivo evidence supports the hypothesis that Lp can act directly or indirectly on bone remodelling by modulating osteoblast and osteoclast activities. Studies in humans have not yet been able to confirm these actions possibly because of the shifting balance between stimulatory direct action and suppressive indirect action of Lp on bones via the hypothalamus. The effects of oestrogen decline and deficiency during menopause on Lp production remains controversial.
