Description
  • This work concentrates of the effect of chosen simple organic acids on the efficiency of electric discharge, quantified by H2O2 production per unit of energy input. Five organic acids were chosen for the experiments: formic, acetic, propionic, oxalic, malonic; in concentrations of 0.1 and 1.0 mmol /l. The choice of acids was driven by number and position of OH groups in the structure. NaCl was used to set the initial conductivity of the solutions to 750 microS/cm. H2O2 content was determined by UV spectroscopy using titanium reagent to form yellow complex with the peroxide. Initial and treated solutions were subjected to pH titration to obtain information about pH values and titration curve shapes. The results show that presence of the acids in higher of used concentrations leads to higher concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, different pH behaviour was observed. For solutions containing no or low concentration of acids, pH in cathode part of the reactor tends to rise from slightly acidic
