Description
  • This paper studies the effect of depleted region on noise characteristics of CdTe and on signal-to-noise ratio. Measurements showed that dominant type of nose for the studied CdTe samples is low frequency noise. Its analysis indicates that the experimental value of noise is always much higher than the theoretical value. The voltage noise spectral density of low frequency noise is directly proportional to the depleted region width. This excess noise level is caused by very low concentration of free carriers within the depleted region. Excess value of noise leads to deterioration of signal-to-noise ratio. One of the ways in optimizing signal-to-noise ratio is to decrease depleted region width. This can be done for example by appropriate choosing dopants which will adjust Fermi level of CdTe.
