Description
  • SPIHT (Set Partitioning In Hierarchical Trees) coding of wavelet coefficients represents a very effective way of image compression. The original algorithm is however supposed to handle single channel images only. So far various modifications, such as the CSPIHT color-image-embedded scheme, have been proposed. This paper analyzes the possibility of processing color (or even arbitrary multispectral) images by separating the channels. We propose a simple method of bit allocation for each plane based on statistical variation of wavelet coefficients and measure the efficiency of such compression compared to the CSPIHT in case of truecolor images.
