| - Supply and transmission of electrical energy is the main purpose of power systems. Condition of power lines and power equipments has the big influence on the right func-tion of power system. Therefore, it is important to operate every part of this system in a good condition. The availability of equipment depends on its reliability and maintainability. In general, the good maintenance pol-icy ensures the minimum probability of equipment fault. The maintenance costs of power equipments can amounts a big part of company budget, therefore, to optimize maintenance strategy, it is an important area of application and re-search. The basic types of maintenance strategies of power equipments and their optimization methods are discussed in this paper. The following part of the paper is focused on the condi-tion monitoring of power transformers.
