Description
  • This paper emphasizes on the performance of the flow control and resource allocation mechanisms of the Medium Access Control layer of GPRS when modified for satellite mode operations. In addition, the terrestrial & satellite mode configurations have been compared in terms of transmission-time, for different data sizes. The results obtained show a lot of promise for satellite based packet data services, especially the dual mode phone technology, leading to Geo-Mobile Satellite Systems, which can offer an attractive alternate solution in the rapidly growing area of mobile satellite packet data services.
