Description
  • Biomass gasification has many benefits compared to combustion; however, formation of dust and tar in the produced syngas is the soft-spot of this technology. These pollutants greatly reduce application potential of the gas in cogeneration unit combustion engines, combustion furnace burners, and combustion turbines. There are several methods of tar and dust removal from the gas, e.g. cracking using catalysts, use of active carbon and other porous materials, thermal removal, and scrubbing using a suitable fluid. This paper discusses potential of cleaning of gas generated in an atmospheric fluid gasifier using water and silicate oil scrubber. Theoretical analysis of suitable fluids composition and conditions for tar removal reduction are presented, too. Objective is to optimize the process and increase efficiency of tar removal. Conclusions of the research study are experimentally verified in a real facility. Results of the experiment are subjected to a detailed discussion.
