Description
  • Polyethylene pipelines for water and gas energy distribution should be carefully constructed and their failure rate should be very low. Therefore, there is a pressing need for reliable numerical procedures to evaluate the different kinds of mechanical loading. The most relevant loading condition for real polymer pipe systems is not only internal pressure, but also sand embedding, additional bending or different kinds of point loads. The advantage of the numerical model presented here is the possibility of adding different loading conditions to the numerical model and predicting diagrammatically the time to rupture for the real loading conditions of a pipe system. The main aim is to study the effect of different types of point loads; a common example is a bigger stone or rock in the contact with polymer pipe. This effect is taken into account, and the residual life time of the structure estimated.
