Description	Two original models have been developed and used in the in the investigation of a continuously cast-low-carbon-steel slab - the numerical 3D model of the temperature field of a concasting and the model of dendritic segregation of elements. In order to apply this second model, it is necessary to analyse the heterogeneity of selected elements in characteristic places of the solidifying slab. The aim of the measurements was to evaluate the course of the crack, the character of the structutre in which the crack was propagating and the heterogeneity of the chemical composition of the elements in the vicinity of the crack.
