  • The influence of the Two-Step Sintering (TSS) process on the final microstructure of various oxide ceramic materials with different crystal structures was studied. In this work, Al2O3, ZrO2 (stabilized with 3mol%Y2O3) and SrTiO3 powders were cold isostatically pressed and sintered according to different TSS schedules. The final density of sintered samples was determined using Archimedes principle and the grain size by the linear intercept method. The results obtained by TSS were compared with microstructures achieved by Single-Step Sintering. The work showed the selective efficiency of the TSS method in material processing. Although various temperatures of the first and second steps of TSS, as well as different dwell times in the second step of TSS, were tested for hexagonal alumina and tetragonal zirconia ceramics, the method of TSS did not bring any improvement of the microstructure of these ceramic materials.
