Conservative approach versus surgery is ongoing discussion and better understanding of biomechanical feedback in both cases is required. Success of the surgery depends on the surgeons experience, and correct selection of implant based on the knowledge of the mechanisms that caused the trauma, and the knowledge of implant properties. The mechanical properties of spinal implant are very difficult to obtain either in vivo or in vitro.
