  • In the last decades, the analysis and application of FRP confinement is subject of interest in both retrofit of existing reinforced concrete columns and in the construction of concrete - filled FRP tubes as earthquake-resistant columns in new construction. Many models and standards are suggested for estimating the compressive strength and strain enhancement provided by the FRP wrap but, there is still lacking to identify adequately accurate model to use in design purpose. Finite element method is widely used method to understand and to simulate the behavior of FRP-confined circular reinforced concrete columns. A number of studies were conducted to evaluate the effect of FRP-confinement on concrete columns, taking into account the mechanism of FRP and stresses in concrete core.
