Description
  • The objective of the present paper is a sensitivity analysis of input imperfections on the ultimate limit state of single storey steel plane frames. The methodology based on Sobol' variance is used for the sensitivity analysis. Sobol' indices are computed for a real data set coming from experiment research. Majority of the input imperfections were measured and their random realizations computed using their histograms whilst employing the Monte Carlo method. The geometrical nonlinear finite element solution is used systematically within the Monte Carlo framework, such that input uncertainties are always propagated through to the output. The output random quantity is the elastic load carrying capacity of the frame. One of the advantages of the Sobol' sensitivity analysis is that it enables the identification of interaction effects between input quantities on the monitored output. The crucial input imperfections are identified.
