  • In our work, we prepared various nanostructured materials by etching approaches and physical vapor deposition. Prepared materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. Mass spectra were measured using ultrahigh-resolution MALDI mass spectrometer LTQ Orbitrap XL (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, MA, USA) equipped with the nitrogen UV laser (337 nm, 60 Hz). The instrument was operated in both positive-ion and negative-ion modes in the normal mass range (m/z 100 - 1500). Tuning parameters were optimized individually for each used matrix and nanostructured material to achieve high and reproducible signal. Testing and application of prepared materials for MALDI-MS analysis of drug and lipid samples and the comparison with standard matrix deposition approaches were performed. The model for evaluation of individual nanostructured materials and matrices was developed and applied for the analysis of selected small molecules. Particular matrices were scored based on the strength of extracted ion current, relative ratio of molecular adducts and fragment ions of particular small molecules.
