  • Metamitron contains a carbonyl function and is susceptible to photolysis in solar light 5, 6. Photodeamination of metamitron was only observed in water and in the presence of oxygen 7. Unfortunately, the oxygen content in groundwater is low and the degradation rate of the herbicide in this case is low.During electrolysis, chlorine/hypochlorite is produced by anodic oxidation of chloride, and it would be converted to chloride as the pollutant has been oxidized. Then the chloride would be anodically oxidized to form chlorine/hypochlorite, which oxidizes the polutant again. The highest COD removal (95,5 %) was observed at pH 3, while COD removal at pH 4 was only about 92%. On the other hand, that the highest TOC removal (78,6 %) was observed at pH 4, while TOC removal at pH 2 was only 64%. Adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) formed during indirect electrochemical oxidation of metamitrone in presence of sodium chloride. AOX values increased with increasing pH environment
