  • The aim of this work is to find effective antimicrobial additive that would work in coatings with long shelf-life stability. Very important is a wide range of antimicrobial efficiency (according to Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, mold, yeast and algae) for a long time without harmful impact on environment. These tested coatings are used as interior coatings and they are based on the aqueous acrylic dispersion and different additives. Additives based on pyrithione and 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one were used. Coating without additives was used as a control sample. The agar dilution method was used for test of antimicrobial ability. The Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus were chosen as test bacteria and Penicillium chrysogenum and Aspergillus niger as test mold. The microbial cultures from Collection of University Pardubice were used. Shelf-life stability was checked after six months and after twelve months. Coatings show a very good antimicrobial efficacy after preparation and later after six and twelve months of shelf-life stability too. The quality of coatings was not changed after twelve months of shelf-life stability test. Coatings containing additives based on pyrithione showed the best results for all tested microbes.
