  • In the coating systems for the atmospheric corrosion protection of metallic materials the top coatings contain as the actively acting compound the pigment with lamellar particles which is capable to create a barrier between the surrounding medium and theprotect the film of organic binder to degradation, to limit the diffusion of gaseous and liquid compounds as activators of corrosion from the currounding medium in direction to metallic substrate. The effectiveness of this protection mode depends, among concentration thereof (PVC) and arrangement in the pigment systém. The paper deals with various nonisometric pigment types and the effect thereof on the protection properties of coating compositions. As a new lamellar pigment type the surface treated micor layer carrier. On the surface of this carrier a layer of ferric oxide-hematite is created. The contribution of these lamellar pigments is evaluated from the adhesive-barrier effectiveness or the anticorrosion efficiency in coating compostitions points
