Description
  • This study brings the preliminary results of paleorecostruction of ecological changes in history of paleolake based on subfossil chironomid head capsules. The study site, small filled up lake (area of 2.3 ha) in altitude of 820 m a. s. l., is located in the Vihorlat Mountains, 20 km westwards from Ukraine boundary in the East of Slovakia (48 g. 54' 46%22 N, 22 g. 09' 52%22 E). The catchment of palaeolake (45 ha) is placed on SE slope of the Motrogon hill and covered dominantly by broad-leaved forest. The uppermost 3.2 m thick layer of the lake is filled by peat and macroremnants at present, bud lower limnic layer, which goes to the total depth of 11,3 m, consisting of different types of gyttja. For the pilot analysis we use the lowermost 7.9 m of limnic sediment, which was separated into 5 cm thick layers.
