Description
  • Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been major cause of nosocomial infections since 1960s. The recent emergence, successful spread, survival and prevalence of virulent and antibiotic resistant clones of community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) is an immensely important problem for human health. Bacteriophages with a broad host range are suitable candidates for fighting these pathogenic bacteria as an alternative to antibiotic therapy. Here we summarize susceptibility of MRSA strains isolated in the Czech Republic between 1999 – 2010 and characterized genotypically in detail to antistaphylococcal bacteriophage preparation STAFAL and to four polyvalent staphylococcal bacteriophages.
