Description
| - Results of this study confirmed negative effect of fluoranthene (FLT) on the growth and root morphology of seedlings in pea (Pisum sativum) and maize (Zea mays). FLT was applied in concentrations 0.01, 0.1, 1, 4 and 7 mg L-1. Significant decreases of length and dry weight of roots and shoots was found in maize seedlings already under influence of 0.1 mg L-1 FLT, while in pea under 1 mg L-1. Total length of primary root and lateral roots and the length of lateral roots were significantly reduced mainly by 4 and 7 mg L-1 FLT in pea and by 1, 4 and 7 mg L-1 FLT in maize. The length of non-branched part of primary root in pea was reduced already by 0.01 mg L-1 FLT, whereas in maize by 0.1 mg L-1 FLT. In both plant species the number of lateral roots was significantly increased by 0.01, 0.1 and 1 mg L-1 FLT and significantly reduced by 4 and especially by 7 mg L-1 FLT. The content of FLT in both roots and shoots of both plant species positively correlated with the level of FLT treatment.
