Description
| - Five days-old pea (Pisum sativum)and maize (Zea mays) plants were cultivated in nutrient solution without (control) or with addition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon fluoranthene (FLT; 0.1, 1 and 7 mg/L) for next 7 days. By means of image analysis methods, morhpological characteristics of roots were assessed (lenght of primary root and its non-branched apical part, length and number of lateral roots). Primary root was used for anatomical studies - crosssections were prepared from the root tip, zone before lateral root occurence and in zone of lateral roots. Results proved a shortening of primary root and its apical part in respose to increasing FLT concentration and a stimulation in number and lenght of lateral roots in lower FLT concentrations (0.1 and 1 mg/L) in both plant species.
