Description
  • Numerous studies have shown that migratory bats are undergoing large fatalities due to wind turbines. Far more bats die due to wind turbines than birds, though they generally receive less attention. Recent studies indicate that at some wind-energy installations worldwide, bats are being killed by an atmospheric-pressure drop or directly by moving wind turbine blades. While the wind energy industry quickly grows, so too does the urgency with which we need to understand causes, patterns, and potential mitigation strategies for bat fatalities at wind developments. Collection and submission of carcass counts, echolocation data for research purposes, will further the crucial goals of understanding correlations between pre-construction monitoring and postconstruction fatalities, in addition to mapping out migration routes for migratory bat species.
