Description
  • The phylogeny of European representatives of the family Anthomyzidae has been studied by means of the Bayesian analysis of combined mitochondrial 12S and 16S rDNA gene markers. The monophyletic origin of the family (more precisely of the extant subfamily Anthomyzinae) and the validity of the majority of European genera have been confirmed. The resolution of the generic affiliation of some aberrant species has been provided. The relationships of European species within the genus Anthomyza have been resolved and monophyly of its species-groups confirmed. The Anthomyza macra group is recognized as a sister-group to all remaining species of Anthomyza. A sister-species relationships of Anthomyza umbrosa Roháček, 2006 and A. baezi Roháček, 1999 (both endemic to Madeira) has been demonstrated and, therefore, A. baezi is transferred from the A. collini group to the A. umbrosa group. The latter group is set on a well-supported clade with the A. gracilis group forming so its sister-group.
