Description
  • In Central Europe effects of anomalous hydrological situations on water biota have been studied mainly in relation to anthropogenic disturbance, not to anomalous discharges induced by global climatic changes. This phenomenon has so far occurred rather exceptionally within predominantly humid continental climate of Central Europe.Czechia shows a high percentage of small (first to third order by Strahler) running waters.Consequently, any disturbance of such habitats would indicate substantial changes in whole landscape. This information gap has led authors,to explore data of a certain intermittent brook with aim to evaluate impact of varying hydrological conditions and to test relation of individual species to hydraulic parameters.Mayflies (Ephemeroptera) have been chosen as a suitable model group due to their relatively easy identification even in early larval instars, and extensive knowledge on their life cycles and species traits.
