Description	This paper introduces the preference model of activity in advanced age as a proposed new approach to older peoples activity and employment. The model is based on the presumption that there exists a normal distribution of activity in the population and that people tend to maintain the same level of activity through the whole life cycle, even though the forms and the content of activities themselves may change. The paper argues that the position of the individual within the model will be based on preferences and values rather than variables such as age, education, or health status. The paper provides an outline of the theory of the preference model of activity in advanced age as well as preliminary evidence gained from the leisure activities of Czech older people.
