Description	New results from archaeological research in southern Moravia and Lower Austria are leading to a new understanding of the early medieval development of the region. It is now clear, that in the 9th century the Greater Moravian and the East Frankish-Bavarian power blocs faced each other here. This bipolar world broke apart at the beginning of the 10th century in the course of the collapse of Greater Moravia and the Magyar invasions. The revival of the original central area took place after the pacific cation of the Hungarians in the 970s. An important focal point emerged at the junction of the rivers March and Thaya. The most important finds besides the many coins are a pair of scales and a spherical weights. (en) Die aktuellen Ergebnissen der archäologischen Forschungen in Südmähren und Niederösterreich erschließen uns eine neue Sicht auf die frühmittelalterliche Entwicklung dieser Region. Es steht fest, dass hier im 9. Jh. zwei Machtblöcke gegeneinander gestanden hatten – der großmährische und der ostfränkisch-bayerische. Diese bipolare Welt brach zu Beginn des 10. Jh. im Zuge des Untergangs Großmährens und des Einfalls der alten Magyaren zusammen. Zur Wiederbelebung des ursprünglichen Kerngebietes kam es nach der Pazifikation der Ungarn in den 970er Jahren. Das Resultat dieser Bestrebungen war die Herausbildung eines wichtigen Knotenpunktes am Zusammenfluss der March und Thaya, wo sich drei große kultur-wirtschaftliche Strömungen überschnitten – westliche, nördliche und ostmitteleuropäische.
