Description
  • The study was aimed at validity of age-based prediction equations of the maximum heart rate values in young athletes. The study involved 47 young female volleyball players (13.4 +/2.0 years) who performed field graded exercise test to %22vita maxima%22, and the directly measured values of maximum heart rate were compared with the Fox (HRmax = 220-age) and Tanaka (HRmax= 208-0.7) age -based predicted values. The results of the study failed to validate the widely used Fox formula in young volleyball players that may overestimate the target heart rate zones. From the point of view of sport pedagogy, Tanaka equation appears to offer more accurate prediction of the maximum heart rate and therefore the use of Tanaka equation could be recommended in the sport training in young athletes.
