Description	The paper will look at the landscapes of former German settlements - comparing the situation in the Czech Republic and in Slovenia. While from Czech border areas Germans were settled out in a result of postwar development, Slovenian karst area in Kocevje region already depopulated during the war, as German inhabitants were moved by Hitlers government to more convenient places in pannonian lowlands. However, both types of landscape are empty now and interesting especially from the historical and biological point of view. Moreover, long-term land use datasets (proceeded in the same way for both countries) give us an excellent overwiev of impacts, that crucial political decision can bring about to the landscape.
