  • We investigated the effect of temperature on scale shape using landmark-based geometric morphometric methods in two synurophycean species Mallomonas kalinae Rezacova and Synura curtispina (Petersen & Hansen) Asmund. Clones of these species were grown at different temperatures (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 °C) in batch culture experiments. We found statistically signifi cant differences in the shape and size variation of silicate structures corresponding to temperature changes, although a substantial part of shape variation was associated with the position of scales on the cell.
