  • Der Nordkaukasus ist eine Region höchster ethnischer Vielfalt. Seit zwei Jahrzehnten ist er einer der gewaltträchtigsten Räume Russlands. Zunächst hatte die tschetschenische Nationalbewegung nach Unabhängigkeit gestrebt. Doch sie wurde in zwei Kriegen unterworfen. Mittlerweile ist auf dem fruchtbaren Nährboden gravierender sozioökonomischer Probleme im Nordkaukasus eine islamistische Aufstandsbewegung entstanden. Ein politisierter Islam dient ihr als ideologisches, identitätsstiftendes Fundament. 2007 proklamierten die Anführer ein %22Kaukasus-Emirat%22. Russland sucht ein Konzept, um der Ausbreitung des Dschihads Einhalt zu gebieten.
