| - The aim of this study was to evaluate the dependence of Escherichia coli resistance to fluoroquinolones on their use in the outpatients and inpatients in the Hradec Kralove region of the Czech Republic. Data on inpatient fluoroquinolones use were obtained from the database of the Charles University Teaching Hospital Pharmacy, data on outpatient prescriptions were obtained from the database of the General Health Insurance Company and expressed in defined daily doses per 1000 clients per day (DID). Escherichia coli strains were isolated from samples of urine of both community and hospitalized patients suffering from acute bacterial urinary tract infection, examined using aerobic cultivation, and determined by standard biochemical procedures. Results of this study shows the impact of fluoroquinolone utilization on Escherichia coli resistance, and support the need of controlled use of these effective antibiotics.

- Cílem této studie bylo zhodnocení závislosti rezistence Escherischia coli na fluoroquinolony při jejich použití v ambulantní či ústavní péči v regionu Hradec Králové, Česká republika. Údaje o ústavně léčených pacientech byly získány z databáze Ústavní lékárny Fakultní nemocnice, údaje o ambulantně léčených pacientech – recepty byly získány z databáze Všeobecné zdravotní pojišťovny. Kmeny E. coli byly získány ze vzorků moči pacientů trpících akutní bakteriální močovou infekcí. Používání fluoroquinolonů se od roku 2001 do roku 2006 zvýšilo v obou skupinách pacientů. Ve stejném období bylo získáno 11 856 kmenů E. coli od pacientů a tyto kmeny byly testovány na citlivost k fluoroquinolonům. Rezistence kmenů E. coli se zvyšovala u obou skupin pacientů a korelovala se zvyšující se mírou preskripce těchto léčiv. Výsledky naší studie ukazují vliv užívání fluoroquinolonů na rezistenci bakterií E. coli a podporují potřebu kontroly používání těchto účinných antibiotik. (cs)
