Description	The aim of this study was to detect and quantify changes in endothelial expression of P-selectin, VCAM-1, ICAM-1 and iNOS in the vessel wall after the short-term administration of simvastatin in a rabbit model of atherosclerosis. We conclude that simvastatin has beneficial effects on endothelial function by decreasing expression of P-selectin, ICAM-1 and iNOS in endothelial cells in the very early stages of atherogenesis. The aim of this study was to detect and quantify changes in endothelial expression of P-selectin, VCAM-1, ICAM-1 and iNOS in the vessel wall after the short-term administration of simvastatin in a rabbit model of atherosclerosis. (en) Buněčné adhezivní molekuly P-selektin, VCAM-1 a ICAM-1 stejně tak jako vysoké hladiny oxidu dusnatého (NO) produkované inducibilní NO syntázou (iNOS) jsou spojeny s rozvojem aterosklerózy. Cílem této studie byla detekce a kvantifikace změn v expresi P-selektinu , VCAM-1a ICAM-1 v endotelu a iNOS v cévní stěně po krátkodobém podání simvastatinu (inhibitor HMG-CoA reduktázy) v králičím modelu aterosklerózy. Metody: 18 králíků druhu New Zealand White bylo rozděleno do 3 skupin. Jedna konzumovala aterogenní dietu (0,4% cholesterolu) 8 týdnů, druhá konzumovala aterogenní dietu (0,4% cholesterolu) 6 týdnů se současným podáváním simvastatinu (10 mg/kg) poslední 2 týdny. Biochemické analýzy prokázaly simvastatinem indukované snížení cholesterolu VLDL, LDL a HDL ale ne triglyceridů. Simvastatin dále snižoval expresi P-selektinu, ICAM-I a iNOS v oblouku aorty a krční tepně. Simvastatin má tedy příznivé účinky na endoteliální funkci prostřednictvím snižování exprese uvedených molekul na počátku aterogeneze. (cs)
