Description	The author discusses several studies on the opportunities and pitfalls in using circulating biomarkers in the treatment of cancer. He says that malignant transformation is associated by disturbances of glycosylation. The studies discussed include carbohydrate antigen (CA)19-9 concentrations in a large population coming for health checkups, early stage of development biomarkers associated with protein glycosylation, and the issue of false-positive elevation of circulating tumor biomarkers..
