Description	A study of a Mycobacterium avium subsp. avium presence was performed in six flocks of common pheasants with the occurrence of clinical signs of avian mycobacteriosis, as well as in 70 other free-living birds, 97 other vertebrates, 97 earthworms and 391 environmental samples collected in places related to the pheasants' farms. M. a. avium was isolated in four flocks from a total of 17 (5.6%) pheasants. Other mycobacterial species were isolated from other 38 pheasants, mainly from the gastrointestinal tract of the birds, e.g. M. fortuitum, M. terrae, M. triviale, M. chelonae, M. scrofulaceum, M. smegmatis, M. flavescens, M. diernhoferi and other non-identifiable species. M. a. avium was isolated from two goshawks (Accipiter gentilis). Suprisingly, M. a. avium was not isolated from other vertebrates or invertebrates and the environment.
