Description	Knowledge on induction of specific immunity to respiratory infections of calves and young cattle is sum up in this review. It is noted that effective vaccination has to meet three main presumptions: formation of required immunity must be in real time, its achievement must be performed in real place and in requested quality. This submits that time between the first vaccination and revaccination should not be shorter than 2 weeks, optimally between 3 to 4 weeks. Hereafter, importance of local immunity and role of cell immunity in defense against some respiratory infections is enhanced. Author controverts the view on immaturity of immune system in calves that should be a reason for delaying immunization to older age. Opinion of rejection of newborn calves immunization provided when colostrum-derived antibodies are still present in their circulation is also discussed. Attention is also devoted to the question of contemporary application of several vaccines, or folding their antigens in one preparation.
