Description	Heavy Mycobacterium avium subsp. hominissuis infection was diagnosed in two sibling horses using culture and quantitative real time PCR methods. Both horses showed severe clinical signs. Multiple diagnostic procedures were applied, including ultrasonography and probatory surgery with biopsy of lesioned tissues from both horses, to reveal the aetiology of their worse clinical status. After an unsuccessful antimicrobial therapy both horses were put down and autopsy examinations were performed. The paper summarizes results of autopsy, as well as microscopy, culture, and quantitative real time PCR examinations of tissues obtained from both horses.
