Description
  • Johne's disease (JD), caused by M.a.paratuberculosis, represents a problem in farmed ruminants. A little is known of the JD infection dynamics or immunological response in deer. In this study, typing of MAP isolates from intestinal lymphatic tissues from 74 infected animals showed that clinical isolates of MAP from New Zealand farmed red deer were exclusively of the bovine strain genotype. The susceptibility of deer to MAP was further investigated by experimental oral-route infection studies using defined isolates of virulent bovine and ovine MAP strains. Oral inoculation with high or medium doses of the bovine strain of MAP established 100% infection rates, compared to 69% infection following inoculation with a medium dose of the ovine strain. The high susceptibility of deer to the bovine strain of MAP was confirmed by a 50% infection rate following experimental inoculation with a low dose of bacteria. This study is the 1st report experimental MAP infection in red deer.

  • Johneova choroba (JD), vyvolaná M.a.paratuberculosis, představuje vážný problém u farmově chovaných zvířat. (cs)
