Description
  • Land-use is one of the basic manifestations of the interactions between nature and human activity. Anthropogenic processes are constantly intensifying and their impact on the land affects the functionality and stability of the landscape. More and more specialists are focusing on historical land-use development. Various evaluation methods are used for studying long-term land-use changes: methods based on analyzing statistical datasets, methods using written historical sources, methods of creating land-use maps from aerial and satellite imaging, and methods of creating land-use maps based on medium-scale topographic maps and large-scale cadastral maps. The authors give an overview of land-use over the last 170 years on 1 : 200 000 map sheets of Brno-Vienna, Zlín-Žilina, Jihlava, Česká Třebová, and Olomouc. Every map sheet has been created based on five time periods: 1836–1852, 1876–1880, 1952–1956, 1988–1995, and 2002–2006. Using these data sources four maps have been created of the change processes between these consecutive periods: 1836–1880, 1876–1956, 1952–1995, and 1988–2006. Two other maps have been made for the entire 1836–2006 period of study: a map of the number of changes and a map of stable areas. On one 1 : 200 000 map sheet there are 11 of the above mentioned categories, which are accompanied by a written description. The authors have gradually been publishing their land-use change findings on model areas and in various types of areas in the Czech Republic. A complete overview of the works the authors have published to date is listed following this map collection.
