Description	Using correlation analysis effects of site-specific factors on the total nitrogen concentration in 2781 mosse samples collected in 2005/6 were investigate at a European scale. Measured and modelled data about atmospheric deposition levels of nitrogen species were obtained from EMEP. The Spearman rank correlation analysis showed that the total N concentration in mosses and modelled N depositions and air concentrations are significantly correlated. The variation in the total N concentration in mosses was best explained by the variation in NH4+ concentrations in air, followed by NO2 concentrations in air and total dry N deposition. The concentration of total nitrogen in moss can serve as an acceptable assessment of atmospheric deposition loads of the main nitogen species within Europe.
