| - We tested a correlation between rank and order of casting antlers in Odocoileus virginianus and starting antler regrowth and velvet shedding according to rank. Antler casting dates were positively correlated with age and wins and losses of agonistic encounters; correlations with body mass approached significance. When age was eliminated by partial correlation, antler casting date was not correlated with other characteristics, except losses. If body mass was eliminated by partial correlation, the relationship between casting date and losses was more pronounced. Timing of antler regrowth was negatively correlated with age, body mass, rank and wins, while positively correlated with losses. The start of velvet shedding was negatively correlated with rank position. Our results are in apparent contrast with previous studies. However, our experimental group contained more individuals in a confined area than is typical for the species.

- Testovali jsme korelaci mezi sociálním postavením a pořadím shazování paroží u jelence běloocasého (Odocoileus virginianus) a počátek růstu paroží a vytloukání lýčí vzhledem k sociálnímu postavení. Doba shazování paroží byla v pozitivní korelaci s věkema vítěznými a prohranými souboji; korelace s tělesnou hmotností se blížila průkaznosti. Když byl eliminován vliv věku pomocí parciální korelace, nebyla doba shazování paroží v korelaci s ostatními charakteristikami s výjimkou proher v soubojích. Pokud byl pomocí parciální korelace vyloučen vliv tělesné hmotnosti, byl vztah mezi dobou shazování a prohrami zřetelnější. Načasování růstu paroží bylo v negativní korelaci s věkem, tělesnou hmotností, pořadím a vítězstvími, avšak v pozitivní korelaci s prohrami. Počátek vytloukání lýčí byl v negativní korelaci se sociálním postavením. Tyto výsledky jsou ve zřetelném kontrastu s předešlými pracemi. Naši experimentální skupinu však tvořilo v uzavřeném prostoru více jedinců, než je pro daný druh typické. (cs)
