Description
| - Evidence is given that the destruction of natural vegetation cover over large areas have considerably impacted water circulation in the landscape and resulted in major changes in temperature distribution. Thermovision camera and satellite data (obtained from Landsat thermal channel TM 6) were used to show that sites with scarce or no vegetation are greatly overheated whilst sites with abundant vegetation are able to damp temperature amplitudes and hence ameliorate the climate. Since water cycles are closely connected to matter cycles, then cycling of water in evapotranspiration and condensation process within a small area, keeps also the matter - nutrients and base cations - in place, hence enhancing the site's sustainability.
